The background makes it look like it's placed between skyscrapers to me XD

Haha yes it is!

In the reference photo there are buildings around this little shop and they are all sorts of colors. I thought that would be distracting and grey would make the shop 'pop' more. And I added some distance to the buildings by adding a sliver of sky and blurring the edges of the buildings. I guess I was also a bit lazy, I didn't want to go into the detail of drawing the buildings ;)
